  • Pro Open Runabout Class dominated by Sea-Doo.
  • Antees on podium for round 1 on completely stock machine.
  • Both Antees’ and Masterton’s Sea-Doo PWC’s performed flawlessly.

Perth, Western Australia, January 31-February 1, 2015

Australia’s most prestigious PWC racing series, the Yamaha Australian Jetcross Championships, kicked off on the weekend at the Burswood Water Sports Complex in Perth, Western Australia. Sea-Doo riders James Masterton and Anthony Antees make the epic journey across Australia from East to West to contest the Pro-Am Open Runabout Class, one of the most highly competitive classes on the tour.

After being completely let down by their transport company, Antees and fellow JSW Powersports rider Jeff McNiven were forced to borrow stock standard Sea-Doo watercraft’s from fellow competitor Corey Styles and local Perth dealership Sea-Doo Sport and Leisure to compete in round 1 on Saturday. It turned out however that the standard Sea-Doo RXP-X turned a few heads, carrying Antees to a comfortable 3rd place and 48 series points, amongst a field of heavily modified PWC’s, including fellow Sea-Doo rider Masterton who took out the top podium spot and the associated 60 series points. Antees was heard to comment “we just stuck fuel in it and rode it’s legs off. I assume it had an air filter on it, did anyone check”?

With their race Sea-Doo PWC’s hitting the water just 5 minutes before the start of race 1 on Sunday morning (round 2 of the series) the JWS Powersports boys had no time to test and tune after the long journey across the country. It was fuel up and hit the gas as the flag dropped, with Antees blitzing the field of Australia’s best, taking a clean sweep of 3 for 3. Antees won the round with a perfect 60 series points, while Masterton, also having a great run on his Sea-Doo RXP-X, took out not only second place and 53 series points, but also a series lead of 5 points over fellow Sea-Doo pilot Antees.

The 2015 Yamaha Australian Jetcross Championships now head East for rounds 3 and 4, to be held at Redcliffe in Queensland on February 21-22. Stay tuned for more Sea-Doo domination to follow.
