2015 AJSBA Yamaha Jetcross Tour Rd 1 & 2 – Perth

AJSBA Tour Rd 1 and 2

Banks of the Swan river was an awesome event to kick off the Yamaha Jetcross Tour in Perth and OZPWC was there.

Superjet Cup with James Xuereb (45), Guy Greenland (20), Tom Leisk (73), Joel Barry (1) and Grant Busby (747) in the line up.

After an absence of many years it was very exciting to hear the AJSBA Australian Jetsports Tour was being resurrected for 2015 (after a trial run in 2014). Its a big ask to get East Coast riders motivated enough to make the big trek to Perth but with great leadership, vision and lots of hard work, primarily by AJSBA President Justin Belczowski, its paid off in a 7 round national tour across 3 states that will crown Australia’s greatest watercraft racers. Big credit to Yamaha Motor Australia who backed it with financial support and took up the prestigious title as Naming Rights Sponsor of the 2015 Yamaha Jetcross Championships.

Attracting a big contingent of East coast riders keen to kick start their 2015 Yamaha Jetcross Championship aspirations in the 7 round national series, the WA event was held in conjunction with Jet Sport West’s signature Duke of the Swan (Ski) and King of the River (Runabout) endurance races.

Organised by the AJSBA and hosted by Jet Sports West and sponsored by Yamaha, AJSP, Jetpilot and Photo By Skip the event was held on the last weekend in January at the Burswood Watersports Complex on the Swan River in Perth.

AJSBA Tour Rd 1 and 2 710

Delivering the excitement !! A great turnout has given a shot in the arm and a massive boost to jetsports racing in Australia.

The big news on Saturday morning was the absence of the #33 JSW Powersports Open Runabout Sea-doo of Anthony Antees. Left high and dry by freight company failures the multi-Australian Pro Runabout Champion was without a ride until Sydney racer Corey Styles offered up his RXP-X in stock trim. Antees would later take it to 3rd overall and some extremely valuable points.

Banks of the Swan river – one of Australia’s best waterside race venues

Lites Ski kicked off the proceedings and was dominiated by local riders with Jetsports West club President Grant Busby battling fellow WA riders Jye Schaap, Kyron Baker and fast Sydney youngster Tom Aitken to take the win after Aitken misread the track and fell behind in the points. Winner of this class also received a $50 AJSP voucher.

Andy Littleford took his Yamaha SVHO to the front in Showroom Stock Runabout ahead of Queenslander Dane Alberti (Kawasaki) and Chris Horrocks in what soon became all too obvious, the new Yamaha Waverunner FZS SVHO is a formidable watercraft. Winner of this class also received a $50 AJSP voucher.

Queenslander and professional stunt rider at Seaworld Ryan O’Keefe dominated the new Superjet Cup with 3 wins ahead of James Xuereub and Tom Leisk to bag some points in his quest to win the brand new Superjet Yamaha are putting up as a prize.

Stock Runabout was dominated comprehensively by Mitch Wayt on his Waverunner Performance Centre SVHO with 3 from 3 ahead of another SVHO in the hands of Brett Douglas and Christian D’Agostin on the Brisbane Jetskis Kawasaki 310R.

Hydrospace riders Joel Barry and Jake Barker were damn fast and battled in Pro Open Ski with Joel coming out on top despite an ankle injury incurred in testing on the Friday before the event. SA rider Jake Barker unable to take advantage of injury after getting docked for inadvertently missing a buoy. Coast to Coast Boating’s Michael Stevens was 3rd on his Kawasaki SXR1100.

Sydney Seadoo owner and current Australian Pro Open Runabout Champion James Masterton took the points in Pro Open Runabout ahead of the Brisbane Kawasaki Ultra 310 of Christian D’Agostin with Anthony Antees running a stock RXP-X into a well deserved 3rd place in a well stocked field of twelve.

Kawasaki ski’s dominated the Enduro rounds after some mechanical issues for Mitchell Wayt took his SVHO out of contention. Brisbane Jetski’s Dane Alberti won through in Showroom Stock Enduro ahead of fellow Kawasaki 310 of Cameron Martin (Performance Training Solutions).

AJSBA Tour Rd 1 - Ben Mounford

Sunday – Round 2

AJSBA Tour Stock Runabout

Stock Runabout start with Brett Douglass (SVHO 71) and alongside him AJSBA President Justin Belczowski (RXP-X)

The boundless energy of Sydney youngster Tom Aitken was channelled effectively at round 2, putting the dissapointment of the previous day behind him and took a well deserved win in Lites Ski charging ahead of WA riders Jye Schaap and Grant Busby.

Sunday morning arrival of the JSW Powersports Antees Pro Open Runabout just in time for Heat 1

Brisbane Jet Ski’s Dane Alberti took his Kawasaki Ultra 310 to the front in Showroom Stock Runabout ahead of Saturday’s Round 1 winner Andy Littleford and again Chris Horrocks was third.

Ryan O’Keefe again dominated the Superjet Cup class with another 3 wins setting up a perfect start in the manufacturers class ahead of Pro Open rider Joel Barry and newly crowned 2014 Amateur Vets Ski World Champion James Xuereub in third.

Stock Runabout was again dominated comprehensively by Mitch Wayt on his Waverunner Performance Centre SVHO with 3 from 3 ahead of fellow SVHO Waverunner of Brett Douglas and Kawasaki’s Christian D’Agostin in a repeat performance of Saturday’s top 3 round 1 results. This new Yam is a cracker.

Hydrospace riders Joel Barry and Jake Barker battled in Pro Open Ski with Jake coming out firing despite some electrical charging ski issues and some stressful race lineups with a hard to start ski to take all 3 wins after piling on the pressure in a dominant display of standup action on his 4 stroke Hydrospace. Joel Barry salvaged some valuable points despite his ankle injury ahead of Central Coast’s Michael Stevens.

Current Australian Pro Open Runabout Champion James Masterton didn’t get it so easy at round 2 with the Antees JSW Seadoo turning up just in time to take to the track for heat one of Pro Open Runabout. A run in with JSW Performance boss Jeff McNiven’s Seadoo RXP-X caused further grief for the Sydneysider in what was almost a repeat of his World Finals ending collision in October 2014. Antees was impressive in all three heats with some great speed and skill to edge ahead of Masterton who continued on after icing his left leg and some hasty repairs on his damaged Seadoo and a loaned replacement seat. Brisbane Kawasaki’s Christian D’Agostin was third on his Ultra 310R.

AJSBA Tour Rd 1 and 2

Brisbane Jetski’s Christian D’Agostin again charged to an Open Enduro win to beat Gavin Hughes.

Mitch Wayt also took out the coveted King of the River holding aloft the perpetual cup and giving praise to his stock Waverunner SVHO for delivering the goods. He takes the points lead to Brisbane in the Stock Runabout Enduro series.

Jake Barker took out the Duke of the Swan for the standup class for the second year in the row, a massive effort from Jake after already completing 6 Pro Open Ski heats over 2 days of fierce competition.
