Action Sports brand JetPilot has thrown its full weight behind next week’s Australian Motorcycle, Scooter and Jet-ski Expo at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (February 17-19).

With its Asia Pacific base just a short drive from the venue, the brand has invested heavily in its core moto and watersports markets.

JetPilot will make a splash as it takes naming sponsorship of the JetPilot Water Zone where a host of exciting freestyle jet-ski demonstrations will take place.

Headlining the performances are 2010 World Freestyle Champion Lee Stone from the United Kingdom, and local talent Jon ‘Wire’ Cooke.

Stone and Cooke will showcase the best moves in their stand-up ski arsenal at up to 3 shows daily. Stone will also take part in a world-record attempt during Sunday’s performances.

JetPilot is also a major sponsor of the Monster Energy Showtime FMX team, Australia’s longest-running action sports outfit.

Kick-starting a busy schedule of shows across the country, riders Kain Saul, Brad Burch and Matty McFerran will put on a series of demo’s to show off FMX’s most popular and progressive moves.

JetPilot is behind the efforts of the popular Brown’s Grafix Mini Moto team, who show that just 50cc of mini bike power is enough to put on a spectacular show.

Visitors will have the chance to meet and greet with JetPilot’s athletes at its exhibition stand.

JetPilot’s Darren Attard said the event was a perfect fit for the brand.

“The consumer base of the Expo loves everything with a motor and our brand has been driven by this concept for over 25 years,” said Attard.

“The Gold Coast offers a great lifestyle for all the sports we back and believe in.

“We have been heavily involved with Showtime FMX, Wire Watercraft Riding and the Brown’s Grafix Mini Moto show for a long time and they are all at the top level of their fields.

“The crowd is going to be pumped on what they see!”

Visitors can pick up show-only specials on JetPilot gear and apparel at the clearance sale which will run throughout the Expo.

20,000 visitors are expected to attend the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre’s largest consumer exhibition.

Tipplers Resort on South Stradbroke Island could finally have its long-awaited licensed restaurant if a development proposal is endorsed by Council on Monday (30/1).

The application for the restaurant was recommended for approval at today’s City Planning Committee meeting. It will replace the former ‘Tradewinds’ function room and bar area, and will operate from 7am to 10pm, seven days per week.

Chair of City Planning Committee, Councillor Ted Shepherd, said the restaurant would be a wonderful addition to the Tipplers Resort.

“The new restaurant will further enhance the precinct, which is already one of the most popular recreation areas on the Gold Coast for families,” he said.

“During the Christmas and New Year period, campers flocked to the resort, with visitors enjoying the new swimming enclosure and upgraded kiosk facilities,” he said.

The 294 square metre footprint for the new restaurant will be confined to the existing building, which was established in the 1960s. The 1,550 square metre ‘wet area’ at the front of the building will be retained as an outdoor seating area.

Refurbishment works proposed for the ageing building include a new kitchen and new toilets as well as new skylights, ceiling fans and floor covering. The external upgrades include new doors, louvers, a ramp, steps and cladding.

“To all intents and purposes, the new restaurant will operate in much the same way as the former function room and eatery/bar area,” Cr Shepherd said.

There were no objections to the proposal from the community.

The Tipplers eco-resort is a unique and family-friendly area set in the midst of an environmental reserve and conservation park. It is considered one of the Gold Coast’s most precious environmental assets and is home to a number of significant flora and fauna species in a relatively natural state.

The QPWC regrets to announce we have been forced to make a decision to POSTPONE this weekends race in the interest on everyones safety.

In association with K38 and the Coast Guard great consideration has been given not only to the safety of the Riders and Skis but also the Safety support boats.

There is currently an enormous amount of debri and brown water with a large fast running swell. Aditionally there is a forcasted cross wind of 25 knots for Sunday morning.

Consideration was given to asses this late tomorrow or Sunday morning but this was deemed unfair to those travelling distance for what looks futile.

The great news is the Race will go on as planned on an alternative date. Stay tuned for a relase of that date soon and keep training!

JETSKI – The International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) has launched its new global personal watercraft resource website which is intended for PWC riders.

Working in collaboration with personal watercraft manufacturers Kawasaki, Yamaha and BRP, ICOMIA’s ‘Ride the Wave Right’ website, which is available in English, French and German, provides advice for safe and responsible PWC riding, information on the history and evolution of PWC, as well as ideas for recreational PWC activities and tips on how to be environmentally friendly on the water. The website ensures that PWC enthusiasts and government authorities have access to policy and legislation information on CE Products, (the markings and documentation which EU directives require products to carry before being placed on the market), the CIN Checker Database (on-line Craft Identification Number (CIN) checking system) and Grey Imports (PWCs that are not purchased through official dealers in your home country). The website also features links to product and manufacturer information directly from the Kawasaki, Yamaha and BRP websites.

In addition, an interactive world map provides essential riding information such as national regulations, age limits, driving licenses and registration requirements for 27 countries across the globe.

‘Ride the Wave Right’ also offers the quiz ‘Sink or Swim’, an enjoyable way to learn about safety issues and to test your personal watercraft knowledge. Should you achieve 100% on the quiz, you get the chance to post your results on Facebook and invite friends to test their riding skills as well. The quiz is also featured on Facebook as a separate “app”.

Hans Sipkema, leader of the ICOMIA Marine Engine Committee’s PWC Task Force, and Kawasaki Motors Europe, stated that “the website provides a platform for the industry to promote this great sport, and the PWCs ever growing usefulness to society, as more police, fire fighters and life guards discover the great potential these crafts can offer in saving peoples’ lives”.

It was in the early 1990s that the personal watercraft became the fastest growing category in the recreational boating market and the PWC industry was for a time the fastest growing segment of the marine business. Today PWCs are 75% quieter and up to 90% environmentally cleaner. They can accommodate up to three people, feature environmentally friendly engine technology and increased safety precautions.

Kihira Kosuke, ICOMIA Marine Engine Committee’s PWC Task Force member and Yamaha’s Product Planner, commented that by providing these resources and advice, PWC users can maximize their enjoyment whilst using the machines safely and responsibly.

Tony Rice, ICOMIA’s Secretary General states that “this is a unique resource providing global information and advice for PWC riders and I am grateful to the ICOMIA Marine Engine Committee’s PWC manufacturers for their initiative”
