Improving Recreational Boating Safety Discussion Paper PDF Print E-mail

Queenslanders are being invited to have their say on further improving boating safety.

Maritime Safety Queensland is seeking public feedback on marine safety issues through the Improving Recreational Boating Safety Discussion Paper. These issues have been identified by the boating public, the marine industry and marine enforcement agencies.

The paper covers a wide range of topical marine safety issues and canvasses public opinion on:
the compulsory wearing of personal flotation devices (PFDs) during high risk boating activities
introducing a new category of recreational marine licence for the operators of large recreational vessels operating a powered recreational vessel without a licence safety requirements for personal watercraft (jetskis) including carrying safety equipment positioning passengers minimum age of unlicensed but accompanied operators the safe operation of aging recreational vessels over 15 m and more than 10 years old.
