The search has resumed for a woman who went missing after a jet ski accident on the state's south coast.

A man was also critically injured in the accident.

The man and the woman were on the jet ski on Lake Illawarra at about 5pm (AEDT) yesterday when they came off and signalled for help.

A windsurfer came to their aid but was unable to find the woman.

The man was brought to shore and resuscitated before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition.

A land, water and air search resumed today at 5.30am (AEDT) and is expected to continue throughout the day.
