Following the story about a skier who was knocked off his ski by a low-flying duck. Well, sturgeon in Florida’s Suwannee River have gone one better. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, 23-year-old Blake Fessenden was riding his PWC on the river when a four feet long sturgeon leapt into the air and hit him in the head.  Fessenden was knocked unconscious, but fortunately his girlfriend, who was riding pillion, was able to hold Fessenden’s head above the water until a nearby boat came to their aid.

He’s not the first to be assaulted on the Suwannee River, either. In April, a 31-year-old woman was hospitalised after a threefoot long sturgeon jumped into the boat she was traveling in. Officials say such accidents occur about twice a year on the river. Sturgeon can jump as high as eight feet, and weigh up to 200lbs.
