nationalcc_logo_sm.gifMEDIA RELEASE:: The 2008 National Capital Cup PWC Race series will once again be held at Regatta Point, Lake Burley Griffin with racing on the 9th & 10th February.  The event will attract some of the world’s best Jet Ski racers, including numerous Australian Champions, and no less than 6 World No.1 ranked riders from Australia, New Zealand, and England.

The event will be launched with a rider training day on Saturday 2nd February from 9.30-11.30am, at Molonglo Water Ski Park Fyshwick.  Event Manager, Mark Glew will be available for media interviews.  We are also offering media representatives the opportunity to experience first hand the power and excitement of this sport, with a ride on the back of one of the race Jet Ski’s.  This offer is open to all media representatives.

So please bring your swimmers, and we will provide the rest!!!  It will give your story a whole new perspective.

This is the 3rd year of the National Capital Cup, and this year the event expects to attract more than 100 entrants.  Race classes range from the first time ‘Rookie’ through to seasoned ‘Pro’ both on runabouts (jet skis on which riders are in a sitting position) and pole skis (standing).  This year’s schedule again includes the crowd favorite Junior ski riders, with seven of the country’s best juniors (12-15) going head to head.

The Premier event will be the ‘Pro Open 1200 Runabout’, with the first race in this class commencing at around 10.15am on Saturday 9 February.  It will feature some of the fastest PWCs in the world.  With a
4 stroke turbo charged engine, producing over 450Hp, these skis are capable of reaching speeds in excess of 140km/hr, with an acceleration rate of 0-100km/hr in less than1.8 seconds.

The 2008 Yamaha Waverunner National Capital Cup also has a ‘State of Origin’ component, with riders competing for their state to win the perpetual National Capital Cup.  Defending champions Victoria will have a formidable team, with several Australian champions and world ranked riders including world number one Veteran and Drag Ski champion Les Cooke, Women’s World No.1 Kylie Elmers, and the secret weapon of James Bushells from the UK.  Canberra is represented by a contingent of local riders including current Australian Pro Stock No.2 Mark Glew, Darren Drewson, Robert Nunn, Steve Wilde and a host of promising rookies.

Further details in relation to the February 9-10 event will be released over the next couple of weeks.
