Speed limit changes, Noosa River waterways
Written by -mIKe-
Friday, 19 September 2008

The speed limit of the commercial personal watercraft area on the Noosa River has been increased to 40 knots. The area is located adjacent to the river's northern bank at North Shore and opposite the suburb of Noosaville. In 2006, the area was changed to 20 knots following a public speed limit review of the Noosa River waterways.

Within the designated areas of the Noosa River and Maroochy River, boats are prevented from operating or anchoring from sunrise to sunset, with the exception of commercially registered personal watercraft. The existing Maroochy River commercial personal watercraft area will maintain its speed limit of 40 knots

In changing the designated personal watercraft area speed limit on the Noosa River back to 40 knots, Maritime Safety Queensland has considered the long history of commercial hire and drive operations in the area and the significant contribution to tourism they have made.

Partnership delivers safer recreation on our rivers
Written by -mIKe-
Friday, 19 September 2008

Council, in partnership with Maritime Safety Queensland, has set out new designated zones for the commercial operation of jet skis on the Maroochy and Noosa rivers.

The initiative will help control jet ski traffic and enhance safety for everyone who uses the rivers.
Council worked closely with Maritime Safety Queensland to ensure the zones were marked before the onset of the school holidays.

Maritime Safety Queensland has identified commercial jet ski areas adjacent to the northern bank of the Noosa River near North Shore and beside the northern bank of the Maroochy River near Twin Waters. Council and Maritime Safety officers have set out navigation aids – a series of yellow buoys – at both locations.

While Maritime Safety Queensland is responsible for maritime safety issues, council plays an ongoing regulatory role.
