Family of man who died on power-ski sues rental agency

DAYTONA BEACH -- The people who rented Roberto Melendez a power ski in Ponce Inlet told him the 8-foot waves in the ocean that day were "great for jumping," before he hit his head and drowned in the surf, according to a negligence lawsuit filed in his death.

But the owner of Short Money Jet-Ski Rentals Inc. on Peninsula Drive never warned Melendez, 25, of Deltona, of weather hazards, the lawsuit filed Thursday says, and the business didn't give him safety instructions.

Major Announcement - National Capital Cup

This years Signage One National Capital Cup to be held in Canberra from the 2nd to the 4th of February will attract national media coverage for the sport of PWC Racing.  The event organisers are pleased to announce that we have just secured the services of 2007 Australian of the Year Nominee, and world renound speed skier “Mr Michael Milton”.   Mr Milton has agreed to officially open the event and start the first moto for the Pro 1200 Open Runabout Race.  The fastest PWC’s on water in the world will be let out of the gates by the fastest Australian ever on frozen water (213.65 Km/hr). We expect that this announcement will attract interest from all the major TV networks, radio stations and sports shows across the country, continuing to raise the profile of this event and the sport of PWC racing in Australia.  We also wish Mr. Milton the best of luck with ‘2007 Australian of The Year’ awards to be announced on the 25th of January 2007.   For PWC racers, there is still time to enter this event.  Entries close on Friday the 19th of January 2007. Councils defend jet ski plans

SUNSHINE Coast councils have hit back at state government claims they have failed to establish jet ski exclusion zones for waterways.

Transport Minister Paul Lucas has been reported as saying councils across the south-east had been "too slow" to introduce exclusion zones following a state government plan released in July 2005.

Man Questioned over 'Foolish' Jet Ski Jump

A man is being questioned over a jet ski jump at Melton Weir last week which left another man with serious head injuries.

The 32 year old was reportedly helping police with their inquiries yesterday afternoon after detectives armed with a search warrant found a jet ski at a Kings Park house.

Witnesses told police a 36 year old man was struck in the head by a jet skier who tried to jump over the stern of a ski boat as it pulled into the beach on Thursday last week.

The jet skier fled the scene after the accident.

The victim is reported to be in a stable condition.
