For decades Tipplers was an iconic boating destination and a part of the old Gold Coast lifestyle until the Gold Coast Council wasted millions of dollars of ratepayers money by making what some have described as the worst decision ever by the Council.
No longer is Tipplers the place where hundreds of boaties would congregate and enjoy a family day where all were equal - regardless of whether they had arrived on a tinnie or a luxury yacht.
We want Tipplers back!
Please join our flotilla on Australia Day (Tuesday 26th January 2010) in support of the Marine Action Group's campaign to get Tipplers back.
Please come by boat, tinnie or jet ski with your placard, banner or flag and meet at the Paradise Point foreshore at 11:00 AM.
The flotilla will leave at 11:30 AM and travel slowly around the Sovereign Islands, past Wave Break Island, the Seaway, The Spit and the Southport parklands.
For radio communication on the day, please go to VHF Channel 72.
Charter boat Top Cruise Rani will lead the flotilla - this will be coordinated by Jim McLaughlin mobile no.: 0447 140 060 - if you need a core flute or some help with a banner, please feel free to call Jim.
Updates to the day's program will be posted on our website: www.marineactiongroup.com

You Can Help Make Boating Safer |

A total of 174 lives have been lost in boating incidents in NSW over the last 10 years. More than half those fatalities resulted from a person falling overboard or a vessel capsizing.
In the interest of improved safety, NSW Maritime is seeking comment on proposals to change lifejacket rules.
Should there be new categories for compulsory wearing of lifejackets aimed at recreational boaters in situations of heightened risk, especially children and boaters in tinnies?
NSW Maritime recognises that not all boating activity has a similar risk. The idea is not to make the wearing of lifejackets compulsory at all times, or to take the fun out of boating. However, boating should be enjoyable and safe and if there is an accident a lifejacket can dramatically increase your chance of survival.
Your views and feedback on this important safety issue will be most appreciated. To read the discussion paper and fill out an online survey, please go to http://maritime.optin.com.au/a?1i426-938.00i.002
This survey takes about five minutes to complete and is anonymous
There is an option to leave your basic contact details if you choose to do so, and this will put you into the running to win one of 10 free inflatable lifejackets.
The deadline for comment is Friday 8 January 2010.
Safe boating,
Neil Patchett

Harley Park Ramp (QLD) PWC Exclusion Vote Rally |

The Gold Coast City Council is voting on a proposed by-law to prohibit the use of PWC at the "Harley Park" (Grand Hotel) boat ramp on Frank Street in Labrador this Monday.
This has been one of the largest ramp facilities on the Gold Coast since the 1970's and the development of residential complexes like "Deep Water Point" and "Grand Hotel" have brought a large number of residence in close proximity to the boat ramp.
A few local residents who have moved to the area since this new development have been very vocal to the GCCC, Boating & Fisheries (DPI) and the Water Police in regard to noise & usage issues.
Obviously these residents moved to an area with this public facility without realizing that there can be some noise generated from its use.
These vocal residents have set their sight on PWC activity and were responsible for the GCCC introducing the local by-laws baning the starting of watercraft engine out of the water and applicable signage.
Their latest round of activity has lead to the GCCC to put together a proposed ban of watercraft from this high profile facility as well as a possible exclusion zone surrounding the area.
The greatest concern for the industry is not just the impact of that ramp and exclusion zone but the precedent that is set for other areas in QLD.
The PWC industry is planning a large rally to show the council how much support there is from our customers and watercraft users in South East QLD.
The rally will take place from 8.00am - 12.00pm on Monday November 23rd at the Gold Coast City Council chambers 135 Bundall Road, Bundall QLD 4217.
I would urge as many people as possible to join us to make our presence felt to the Councilors as they arrive to vote on the important issue.
