Vale James Carr – multi Australian Champion, dead at 41

James Carr

The sudden death last week of 90’s  Australian 785 pro class racer James Carr stirred powerful emotions among the jetski community and into the funeral held on the Gold Coast last Friday. James died suddenly early last week following a severe asthma attack at just 41 years of age that caught everyone by surprise. After an absence of so many years James had only recently purchased a 785 XP from Sydney’s Paul Leven with an intention to race once again on the Gold Coast.

James achievements are impressive and many – a 3 time Australian National Pro Runabout Modified 785 champion in 95/97/98 as well as Aussie champion in Pro Runabout Limited/Superstock 785 in 1997/98 and 2 x Australian Surf Champion in 95/96 as well as numerous APWA Pro Runabout Mod 785 Australian titles. He also excelled at distance racing with wins in the formidable Sea-Doo Enduro in 1998 and Kawasaki 100 in 1999. This was all during a time of exceedingly high quality racing in Australia with very competitive grids that are testament to James’s racing talents for Sea-Doo in all forms of jetsports racing including flatwater, surf and enduro.

James was a rare blend of super competitive but friendly, humble and grateful and will be sorely missed, our thoughts are with his family and friends. He is survived by his partner Nicki and two young children Mackenzie (5) and Cooper (7).

James also ran the Australian Jet Ski Academy in Sydney before relocationg to the Gold Coast
