In an amazing story of dreams becoming reality Aussie Brett Carroll is set to join the high risk adventure reality show Dangerous Waters for season 6 which starts in just over a month and their longest expedition to date, an incredible 10,000km from Singapore to Alaska!

For those not familiar with the show, Dangerous Waters is a ‘true’ reality television show about a team of adventurers whose goal is to circumnavigate the world on their Kawasaki Jet Ski personal watercraft.

Expedition leader Steven Moll of Folsom, California will lead the men accompanied by Medic Pat McGregor and Mechanic Karlin Nichols both of Boise Idaho with Mechanic/Cameraman Troy Larson from Petersburg Alaska. After 5 seasons of an all American crew, Dangerous Waters has welcomed Victorian Brett Carroll to the team as Head Cameraman and the first international crew member, an amazing vote of confidence in the young Australian.

This year, the team depart Singapore in early April and for two months will ride the South and East China Seas, Northern Pacific Ocean and finally the Bering Sea ultimately ending the journey in Nome, Alaska.

The skis chosen are 2015 Kawasaki Ultra LX  Jet Skis and have been specially modified and set up for the expedition with fuel racks and pumps, lighting and navigation and safety equipment. Each rider will wear a Kokatat dry suit and Mustang Survival PFD equipped with Personal Locator Beacon, GPS, VHF radio and strobe lights.

Brett has been riding PWC since 2011 and previously worked as a freelance cameraman for Channel Ten and Channel Seven News in Melbourne and the United Kingdom before a change of scenery saw him take a role in Emergency Services as a Fire/Rescue Dispatcher in Victoria.

Not long after buying a brand new 2012 PWC Brett discovered the TV show Dangerous Waters via Facebook and became an instant fan, keeping track of the shows’ expeditions during seasons 1 & 2 and soon becoming ‘friends’ with the shows creator Steven Moll.  The show made a huge impact and provided the inspiration to kickstart his own web jetskiing episodes downunder called The PWC Life on youtube where he would showcase rides organised through OZPWC.com as well as doing some gear reviews.

Fast forward several seasons of DW and now very much real friends with Steven, one day Brett received a message out of the blue saying he was looking for a cameraman who could essentially leave his job and life for roughly two months to join the expedition.

After much tooing and froing via email and text, Brett remembers being out for lunch at a little cafe in an inner suburb of Melbourne with his girlfriend when he gets a call from Steven Moll. Brett explains,”after exchanging pleasantries for a few minutes he starts to ask a series of questions about my skills and so on.  It seemed an awful lot like an interview only I didn’t know I was being interviewed 😉 – as the questions keep coming I’m getting more and more excited at where this conversation is headed, then there is a brief silence and I hear – “…so Brett, I want to ask you. Do you want to join us?” It was only polite of me to allow him to at least finish his sentence before replying with a firm YES!”

From then on, the real work began. Brett stepped up his gym sessions and engaged a personal trainer to help improve his fitness. Over the last few months, the floor in his study has grown with gear as it gets laid out in preparation for packing.

“This will be the first time I’ve been overseas and packed as if I was only going for 4 days!” Brett says, “travelling light is very important on this trip as not only do these skis have to carry all our own personal gear, but cases of camera and computer gear as well as tents and camping gear.”

Whilst he is a little nervous about the enormity of this trip, and the thought of the many thousands of kilometres and long hours of riding to be done, he is as ready as he can be, “I am really looking forward to being a part of one of the biggest and best seasons of Dangerous Waters to date. On a personal note, were it not for forums like OZPWC.com and it’s many and varied contributors, this opportunity is unlikely to have come about and I will be forever thankful for every bit of information and help I have received and continue to receive. I really hope that my involvement in this show can highlight the fact that jet skiing is not always about doing a bit of circle work at the beach and that exploring the world is not limited to doing it by boat or plane.”

“I’ll sign off with a quote that has accompanied each email and message from Steven to us all…..
