CALLS FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR NEW MARITIME ADVISORY COUNCIL
NSW Ports Minister Duncan Gay has called for expressions of interest for membership of the Government’s Maritime Advisory Council.

The Maritime Advisory Council will advise the Minister on strategic matters concerning the promotion of boating and other waterways based activities, waterways safety, environment, navigation, regulation, infrastructure, community issues and the development of the maritime industry in NSW.

Mr Gay said the first priorities for the Council will be to help develop a policy agenda for safety reforms, access to waterways and boat storage.

“The Maritime Advisory Council for NSW will be comprised of up to nine members who can offer expert advice which is representative of the major recreational boating and commercial vessel sectors,” Mr Gay said.

“Council members will be appointed for a three year term with eligibility for re-nomination and re-appointment. The

Council will meet at least two times per year,” he said.

The new Advisory Council will sit under the new integrated transport agency, Transport for NSW. The Council will be independently chaired and offer advice across the recreational and commercial boating sectors.

It is estimated that 1.5 million people go boating each year in NSW and there are now more than 250,000 registered vessels.

Expressions of interest, including details of relevant personal experience, qualifications and other relevant details, should be marked confidential, and forwarded to:
